Garnier Micellar Water Review

A skin friendly make-up remover that cleans all the make-up off our faces is always a staple in anyone's make-up arsenal. Unfortunately, one that is affordable yet effective is not always an easy find. This past year there has been an increase in interest for using micellar water instead of the traditional facial make-up remover. The Bioderma Micellar Water is particularly popular, but its price gave a reason for the consumers to search for an alternative that is just as good. Keeping affordability and availabilty in mind, I decided to try Garnier's Micellar Water for the dry and sensitive skin.

Packaging and Pricing
There are two available packaging for this product, the full size contains 400 ml (13.5 fl.oz) and retails for €4,95, while the travel size contains 125 ml (4.23 fl.oz) and retails for €1,95.

The Garnier Micellar Water caters for different skin types and its packaging are colour-coded accordingly through its bottle caps :
  • Green : combination and sensitive
  • Dark pink : dry and sensitive
  • Pale pink : normal and sensitive
The caps themselves are secure enough not to spill easily, and the plastic that makes up the bottle is not flimsy either, so I think the packaging are satisfactory.

Claims
The Garnier Micellar Water claims to gently remove make-up effectively, while also moisturises the skin. The product can be used on the face, lips, and eyes. It is unperfumed, and are said to be highly compatible to most skin.

Review
It definitely is unperfumed, which I think, considering it is meant to be safe for those with sensitive skin, is nice. It has the consistency of water, but it does have a slippery feel to it. I was glad to find that my skin does not break out after using it, neither did I had to scrub vigorously at my skin to remove the make-up. In addition, my skin really did feel moisturised after using it. But let's move to a more in depth review on its cleaning abilities :

  • Face - this product is fantastic to remove all trace of face make-up. In one swipe, it is able to remove 90% my bottom face makeup layer, the foundation, in the area.
  • Lips - it works wonderfully in removing my lip products, even the most stubborn lip stains or liquid lipsticks will be removed by the third swipe, tops.
  • Eyes - now this is where it gets tricky, it removes the powder products just fine, however it doesn't stand a chance against my waterproof eyeliner or mascara. The waterproof products stays intact, at most it will be smudged a little bit.
Conclusion
I really do think that this product measured up just fine to its hype, being called to be the "dupe" for the Bioderma one. It fulfils its claims, which is always amazing in a product. Price point wise, I think it is very affordable, considering you will get almost a half a litre of product for under €5. However, I am a little disappointed that it cannot remove my waterproof eye make-up, as such, be sure to have in addition an oil-based eye make-up remover.
